Our view
“Five on a Treasure Island” still works as a children’s adventure, with everything a treasure hunt needs. The first “Famous Five” book sends four children and the dog Timmy after lost gold, and some readers find its freedom from adult supervision part of the charm today. George, a girl who will not be treated as one, stands out. At 186 pages, a confident young reader can manage it alone.
