Our view

Karin Slaughter’s “Faithless” is a dark fifth Grant County novel that ties a murder case to the private lives of its three leads. Some readers prize its wounded, complicated leads; others find it the weakest entry so far and tire of the endless quarrels between Sara Linton and Jeffrey Tolliver. It belongs after the four earlier books and calls for a strong stomach for bleak, tense crime fiction.
