Our view

“Broken” is a tense, character-rich return to Grant County that brings Slaughter’s two series together. Sara returns to the town she left, and the meeting of her old world with Will Trent’s gives the book much of its pull. Some readers find the crime itself tangled and easy to guess; others are there mainly for the characters, damaged and very human. It rewards readers who know both the Grant County and Will Trent books.
