Our view

“Elven Star” takes “The Death Gate Cycle” to a new world and gives it a welcome streak of comedy. Weis and Hickman move the story to a land of giant forests with an almost wholly new set of characters, among them the eccentric wizard Zifnab and his dragon, who supply the jokes. Some readers find the romance forced. The mistrust between elves, humans and dwarves, which survives even shared danger, is drawn with care.
