Our view

“Blood Follows” is a compact, darkly entertaining Malazan novella that makes a good side trip from the main series. In ninety pages it follows the sorcerers Bauchelain and Korbal and their long-suffering servant Emancipor Reese through a single city. Some readers admire how much it achieves in so few pages; others enjoy it as light relief without expecting great depth. Set before the main series, it needs no knowledge of its plot.
