Our view
“Belgarath the Sorcerer” is a prequel written for readers who already love “The Belgariad”: the old sorcerer’s life story, told at length. Some fans prize it for the history it fills in; some who arrive without the earlier books find the plot hard to care about, yet still warm to Belgarath and his two very different daughters. At over six hundred and fifty pages, it makes most sense once the main series has been read.
