Editor’s note American speculative fiction writer who uses they/them pronouns and writes about Black, queer and disabled lives under systems built to crush them. An Unkindness of Ghosts follows Aster, a healer on a generation ship organised like the antebellum South, with the enslaved working its lower decks. The Deep, the most read here, grew from a song by the group clipping. and imagines a water-breathing people descended from pregnant African women thrown overboard during the slave trade. Sorrowland, the best rated, follows Vern, who flees a cult into the woods. Intense and strange.
