Joseph Delaney

Joseph Delaney — 7 titles in the rankings, first published between 2004 and 2010. They average 7.9, above the 7.8 the whole catalogue averages. One series has a reading order worth keeping to.

Editor’s note British former teacher whose Wardstone Chronicles, published in America as The Last Apprentice, are dark, folkloric fantasy for younger readers: Tom Ward, seventh son of a seventh son, is apprenticed to the Spook, a gruff man who protects the County from boggarts, ghosts and witches, and is drawn into an uneasy friendship with Alice, a girl from a witch clan. Genuinely scary in places. His scores are remarkably even across the series. Read in order from The Spook’s Apprentice.
