Erich Fromm

Erich Fromm — one title in the rankings.

Editor’s note Frankfurt-born psychoanalyst and social philosopher, part of the early Frankfurt School, who left Germany in 1934 and wrote mostly in English, in the United States and later Mexico. The Art of Loving (1956) argues that love is an art to be learned rather than a feeling one falls into. Escape from Freedom (1941), on the appeal of authoritarianism, and To Have or to Be? (1976) are his other key books.
