Our view
Stephen Baxter’s “Time” is an ambitious, idea-packed hard science fiction novel that opens the “Manifold” trilogy. Some readers find the start dull and the jargon clunky before the second half turns dizzying; others value how clearly it explains difficult science, even if it reads like a textbook at times. As each volume stands alone in its own universe, it is a fine pick for readers who come to science fiction mainly for big ideas.
