Our view
“This Perfect Day” is a sharply drawn technocratic dystopia, worth reading above all for the world Ira Levin builds. Some readers value how it follows one life through all its stages and the protagonist’s slow break from what he has been taught; others find it a mix of familiar genre ideas. A disturbing scene of sexual violence, and what follows, has put some off.
