Our view
Light and quick, “The Stainless Steel Rat” follows a master thief so slippery that the galactic police end up recruiting him. Some readers find it as good on a return visit as they remembered, and call it imaginative and unexpectedly progressive for its time. Its technology plainly belongs to the era in which it was written, though others feel the book reads as distinctive, not dated.
