Our view

“The Changeling” wraps a story of family and disappearance in an adult fairy tale that is tense, eerie and moving. LaValle borrows witches and old folklore for a horror novel that some readers find creepy without being truly frightening; they report being kept curious about where the story will go next, with one slow stretch along the way. The novel won several awards, among them the World Fantasy Award.
