Our view
“Shoe Dog” works because Phil Knight tells Nike’s early years as a string of near-disasters, not as a victory lap. Creditors close in, there are disputes with the government and bigger rivals to outrun. The voice is candid and likeable, and the pace is closer to a novel than to a business manual. This is a founder’s story and a personal one, a memoir more than a set of management lessons.
