Editor’s note The second volume of Kerstin Gier’s Precious Stone trilogy, published in 2010, picks up straight after Ruby Red. Gwendolyn has to learn eighteenth-century manners and dances for a soirée in the past, gains a sharp-tongued companion in Xemerius, the ghost of a gargoyle demon that only she can see, and still cannot tell whether Gideon de Villiers is on her side or only following the Guardians’ orders. Lucy and Paul, the two time travellers who stole a chronograph, seem to know more than anyone admits. The film adaptation followed in 2014.
