Our view

“Sad Cypress” recasts the Poirot mystery as a courtroom drama, and the change of form suits Agatha Christie well. A case that looks settled grows knottier towards the end, readers report, and the dialogue is lively enough to play like a scene on stage. Some readers find that Poirot takes too long to appear. Christie outside her usual pattern, and none the worse for it.
