Editor’s note Rumo was Walter Moers’s third Zamonia novel, published in 2003, and many readers rate it above the Captain Bluebear book that started the series. Rumo is a Wolpertinger, a horned dog-like creature who begins as a pup on a farm, is carried off by the cyclopes of Devil’s Rock, escapes under the guidance of Smyke, a shark grub with a lawyer’s mind, and grows into a fighter who follows a thread of scent to the city of Wolperting and then down into the Netherworld to rescue it. Moers illustrated it himself, the talking sword has two quarrelling souls, and the second half is much darker than the first. About 700 pages.
