Our view
“Murder in Mesopotamia” is an engaging Poirot mystery whose setting, an archaeological dig of the 1930s, is half its charm. The story is told by a nurse summoned to calm a woman frightened by threatening letters, and the expedition’s members are drawn sharply enough to keep suspicion moving among them. Some readers miss Hastings as narrator, and some find the solution hard to believe and impossible to reach from the clues.
