Our view

“Imago” brings the “Lilith’s Brood” trilogy to a fitting close through Jodahs, the first ooloi born to a human mother. Butler follows this human-alien child into adolescence, as the power to change shape and alter genes emerges among the surviving humans and their Oankali rescuers. Some readers admire the prose, others the strangeness of the whole series. Some find this last volume weaker than the first two, its character and relationship work more hurried.
