Our view

“Horrorstör” is a haunted-house story set in a furniture superstore, played for laughs as much as for chills. The satire of big-box retail is sharp and the catalogue-style design a good joke, though some readers find the styling skin-deep and the plot beneath it thin. At 242 pages it is quick, and some find it more amusing than frightening.
