Our view
“From Hell” turns the Jack the Ripper murders into a portrait of a whole society, a conspiracy story far larger than its crimes. Alan Moore’s script imagines the killings as part of a political cover-up, and Eddie Campbell’s artwork is as frightening as the subject demands. Some readers find the murder scenes too explicit and too long, and its London relentlessly bleak; others prize the appendix as highly as the comic itself.
