Our view

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay” is an enjoyable companion to the film. Rowling’s first screenplay follows Newt Scamander, whose magical case goes astray in New York and frees some of his creatures. Some readers enjoy seeing inside the characters’ heads and finding a few moments that never reached the screen; others feel Rowling slips novelist’s asides into directions no camera could show. Fans of the film are its natural audience.
