Our view
“Dubliners” gathers fifteen quiet, exact stories of ordinary Dublin lives, and they give most to readers who slow down or reread. Little happens on the surface; some readers find that a first pass is not enough for the stories to open up, and others find the mood wearing, since there is little joy in these pages. The sadness, though, is rendered with great skill.
