Our view
“Dolores Claiborne” is a psychological thriller told as one unbroken monologue, and it stands or falls with its narrator’s voice. Some readers praise Dolores as a character; others find her way of speaking hard to settle into, or are left by the absence of chapters without a natural place to stop. Long sittings serve it best, as does a taste for King’s people over his supernatural side.
