Editor’s note The fourth Wild Chicks book, from 2000, sends the gang, Sprotte, Frieda, Melanie, Trude and Wilma, to a riding farm for the autumn holidays, and the Pygmies, the boys’ gang, turn up there too. Cornelia Funke wrote the series before Inkheart made her famous abroad, and it is the one German children know her for: five girls in a hen-house clubhouse, their feud and then friendship with the boys, and in this volume horses, first jealousies and a holiday that goes differently for each of them. The German title adds that happiness lies on the backs of horses, an old proverb. For readers of about ten, and the series is read in order.
