Our view
“Darwin’s Radio” rests on a bold idea: something long dormant in human DNA wakes, and evolution may be about to move on. Greg Bear follows a virus hunter and a molecular biologist as the discovery goes public. Some readers feel the last quarter drags and the revelation falls short, and others object to the way women’s bodies are described. The science is taken seriously and, for some, the story proves more moving than expected.
