Our view

“Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” is a picture book made for the very youngest: simple, rhythmic and bright. A repeating question and Eric Carle’s animals in bold, sometimes unexpected colours teach the names of creatures and colours, and some children want it read several times in one evening. Some readers find that it offers no story and little to explore beyond the pictures. It belongs with children just starting to talk.
