“Beach Read” is lighter in title than in substance. The enemies-to-lovers romance is funny and easy to sink into, but the book gives almost equal room to a daughter’s grief for her late father and to her discovery that he was not the man she believed in, a strand written with care. Some readers find parts of the plot too convenient. For readers who like their romance with real grief underneath.
