Our view

The closing volume of the Farseer trilogy asks for stamina: it runs to more than 750 pages. Some readers find that much of that length is slow travel on foot, and that events they hoped to witness are hurried past. What carries it is Hobb’s character writing, which makes the emotions feel earned, and a finale that some rate as the strongest in the series. It is a book for those already attached to Fitz.
