Our view
“A Fatal Grace” is a thoughtful village mystery whose pleasures are its people and its Quebec setting as much as the puzzle. Armand Gamache investigates the death of a woman almost nobody liked, in a place where motives are everywhere. A second storyline runs in the background: some readers enjoy these hints, others feel as if they had missed a book. Some are also uncomfortable with the way one character’s weight is described.
