Seth Dickinson best books, ranked

Seth Dickinson — 3 titles in the rankings, first published between 2015 and 2020. They average 8.0, above the 7.8 the whole catalogue averages. One series has a reading order worth keeping to.

Editor’s note American writer whose Masquerade novels are epic fantasy about economics, empire and the cost of fighting a system from inside. Baru Cormorant grows up on an island conquered by the Empire of Masks, which erases her culture and her family; brilliant with numbers, she joins the empire as an accountant, planning to destroy it, and is sent to govern the finances of a province on the edge of revolt. The Traitor Baru Cormorant, the most read, ends devastatingly. Dense and intellectually ruthless, and the ratings rise with each book. Read in order.
