Patrick Süskind

Patrick Süskind — one title in the rankings.

Editor’s note Perfume: The Story of a Murderer is set in eighteenth-century France and follows Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, born with a superhuman sense of smell and no scent of his own, who becomes a perfumer and then a killer in pursuit of the perfect scent. Grotesque, darkly comic and unforgettable; it is his only book here with enough ratings, and it rates highly. Tom Tykwer filmed it in 2006.
