Jack Kerouac

Jack Kerouac — one title in the rankings.

Editor’s note The voice of the Beat Generation. On the Road, typed in a few weeks in 1951 on one long roll of paper, follows Sal Paradise and the restless Dean Moriarty, based on Kerouac and his friend Neal Cassady, as they cross America by car in search of jazz, drink and something to believe in. It is one of the most read classics here and one of the most divisive: its score is low, as many readers find it aimless. His other books still have too few ratings to rank.
