Charlotte Perkins Gilman

Charlotte Perkins Gilman — 2 titles in the rankings, first published between 1892 and 1915. They average 7.7, below the 7.8 the whole catalogue averages. One series has a reading order worth keeping to.

Editor’s note American feminist writer and lecturer. The Yellow Wallpaper, by far her most read work, is a short story in which a woman confined to an upstairs room by her physician husband as a cure for her nerves slowly loses her mind watching the pattern of the wallpaper; Gilman drew on her own treatment with the same rest cure. Herland, a utopia about an all-female society discovered by three male explorers, is witty but rates clearly lower.
